User Guide

Learn how to capture, analyze, and organize your musical ideas.

Getting Started

Create an account to unlock the full power of RiffVault.

Passwordless Login

RiffVault uses a secure, modern login system. No passwords to remember—just enter your email address, and we'll send you a Magic Link or a One-Time Code to sign in instantly.

Why Sign Up?

An account is required for Cloud Sync (backup across devices) and AI Analysis features.

Guest Mode

You can use the basic Recording and Library features completely offline without ever creating an account.

Recording

Capture ideas instantly with high-quality audio.

The Interface

The recording screen features a professional dB Meter with a peak indicator. Aim to keep your levels in the green/yellow zone. If the bar hits red or the "Peak" warning appears, your audio might be clipping (distorted).

Filesystem

Recordings are saved as high-quality AAC/MP4 files directly to your device's native filesystem, ensuring they are safe even if you uninstall the app (on some platforms).

Offline First

You never need an internet connection to record. RiffVault works completely offline.

AI Analysis

Powered by Google Gemini 2.0 and local DSP engines.

RiffVault uses a hybrid analysis system. Some features work offline, while others require a cloud connection and a User Account.

Feature Mode Description
BPM Detection Offline Instantly detects tempo locally on your device.
Key Detection Offline Analyzes musical pitch to determine the Key (e.g., Am, G Major).
Auto-Tagging Cloud Detects genre, mood, and instruments used.
Lyrics Cloud Transcribes spoken or sung lyrics automatically.

Cloud Sync

Back up your library and access it across devices (Pro Plan).

Sync Status

Look for the status dot next to your tracks in the Library:

  • Synced: Safe. Local file matches the Cloud.
  • Pending: Changes waiting to upload.
  • Cloud Only: Metadata is present, but audio is not on device. Tap to download.

Smart Storage

To save space on your phone, RiffVault uses Smart Storage. When you sync a new device, it downloads your list of songs instantly (the text data), but only downloads the heavy audio files when you actually press Play or open them for editing.

Editing & Arranging

Turn riffs into songs.

Riff Editor

Tap any recording to open the editor.

  • Trim: Drag the start/end handles to cut silence.
  • Markers: Add markers (Intro, Verse) to navigate long takes.
  • Loop: Set a region to loop for practicing.

Song Builder

Go to the "Songs" tab to create a multi-track arrangement.

  • Tracks: Create tracks for Guitar, Vocals, Drums.
  • Drag & Drop: Long press a riff to move it.
  • Playback: Listen to your whole arrangement linearly.
